Courage.
Courage is, judging by Encarta
dictionary, “The ability to face danger, difficulty, uncertainty, or pain
without being overcome by fear or being deflected from a chosen course of
action.”
Courage is the theme of the Alex
Rider Series.
Alex rider works hard doing hard
tasks and solving mysteries. While he’s doing this he usually in danger. He
needs a metaphorical ocean of courage to do so. He has so much courage he races
evil multi billionaires, at 100 mph, in a unprotected Go-Kart and then could it
again the next day. His metaphorical
ocean seeps into the whole book series, making the theme courage. After that
Alex Rider still has courage to spend, getting ignored by his employers when
he’s in danger and then almost being directed by an evil Doctor, doesn’t dry his metaphorical ocean of
courage. In fact he evens forgives MI6 for ignoring him and helps them more
later!
Like Alex Rider, Eragon Shadeslayer
from the Inheritance series has a whole metaphorical castle of courage. He rode a dragon without a
safety harness and happily did it again. He also leads battles against evil
king Galbitorix. He also gets injured
during battles and that doesn’t even takes out a metaphorical brick of
courage.
I am awed by Alex Riders still
Metaphorical ocean of courage.
Courage is important in characters
in books because you don’t always want your knights fleeing from battle like demons
fleeing a holy man. No, you don’t want that you want your characters standing
up for themselves fighting bears and saving lives. As you now see, courage is
important in fictional characters but courage is still important in real life
too. It is healthy to be courageous In real life. You may not have to fight
zombies or defeat evil. But you may have
to go down into the “haunted” basement
full of weird groans and moans.
