The Abyss
The seas so blue with azure tints
The sky as red as the sun
They came-- the agents of destruction
To end our reign of none
They took
our mothers our fathers our sons
I wonder…. will they take me--
Into the black abyss
My fright of them, great
My friends, gone
I try to fend them off
So I won’t fall into that black abyss
My people’s innocence matters less to the
agents
They
try to fight--
They try to hide--
From the black abyss
I am left alone in my land
Everyone gone ‘cept me
I trip and scrape my knee and they attack
Trying to grab me into that black abyss
I lay there
Too weak to move
Too weak to fight
I
give up
To the black abyss
I awake to my family standing around me
That wasn't real--
It was a nightmare--
But what is the black abyss
I ponder it for many years
Doing test after test
Finally, after many years of fear
Of the black abyss
On a midsummer evening
My beard long and white
I found out
By slipping into
the black Abyss
This, I think, is a
great example of lots of figurative language. It has many Similes such as, “The
sky as red as the sun.” the job of a Simile is to compare two things with like,
or as. This fabulous poem also has examples of metaphors, like, “The Black
Abyss.” The Black Abyss is what this guy had been going toward all this life,
which is, Death. ‘The Black Abyss; also has human traits (personification) making it able to travel and making it look
like an unstoppable army (which it is). It also had a lot of rhythm making it sound
like a old Fashioned lay. I didn't Spot
any other Figurative language.
